What is sustainability?

As sustainability consultants, we answer this question every day. There are literary, United Nations, and a variety of other definitions that seem to be more confusing than clarifying. The purpose of our program is to educate your board, executive managment, and employees about the latest research and trends.

Currently, the discussion is about the triple bottom line and the 3 Ps (People, Planet, Profit). Sustainability is your organization staying in business until you decide not to be in business. Its about maintaining enough cash flow to be financial viable. Its about having an environmental program to reduce liability and maintain enough resources to manufacture your product. Its about building social capital that reduces employee and community costs.

Its about being proactive rather than reactive.
